Yes, you can export your data. We are an open platform that complies with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). You can manage and extract all of your personal data as a JSON file. Just click the profile icon and navigate to the Download Data section.
Currently, we do not offer the possibility to correct your data. What you can do, however, is to delete incorrect datasets. You can also correct data at the source, but you will have to work with the data holder where the data originally came from. Once you have made changes there, these will be transferred to BitsaboutMe with the next update.
BitsaboutMe uses session cookies to manage the encrypted communication between the browser/app and the server. These cookies get deleted automatically when you close your browser, which avoids leaving a data trail behind. That’s why you don’t see a cookie disclaimer on our site. Furthermore, we use Matomo for tracking purposes to best protect your privacy while you use our service. You won’t ever find 3rd party cookies to profile and sell users’ data to advertisers on our site.
We use SQLCipher. SQLCipher is an open source extension of SQLite that provides transparent 256-bit AES encryption of database files. In the mobile space, SQLCipher has enjoyed widespread use in Apple’s iOS as well as Android for quite some time. To communicate with our servers, we use HTTPS end-to-end encryption only.
You can connect your bank account via our open-banking partner SaltEdge and import and categorize all your bank transactions. SaltEdge is PSD2 and PCI certified and uses bank level security, i.e., asymmetric cryptography with private keys on different servers. Importantly, BitsaboutMe and SaltEdge can only retrieve data from your bank account but never execute any transfers.
When connecting to your bank via SaltEdge, BitsaboutMe will provide an embedded web interface to SaltEdge. In that interface, you can select your bank and then enter your bank credentials. These credentials are then sent to SaltEdge and the service will establish a connection to your account and return the data to BitsaboutMe. BitsaboutMe never stores your online banking credentials. For more information, please refer to SaltEdge’s Privacy Policy and End-User License Agreement.
If you have any difficulties connecting your bank account, please contact support@bitsabout.me.
The receipt manager tool helps you to easily manage your finances on your mobile phone, saving you precious time.
Once you’ve connected your bank account(s) via SaltEdge, you’ll see a complete overview of your expenses under Finance: The e-receipts from your connected online accounts will automatically be connected to your payments. Additionally, the scanner enables you to effortlessly digitize and store all your paper receipts in a secure location. Learn more.

The IBAN (International Bank Account Number) and the BIC (Bank Identifier Code) provide information about your bank account.
In some countries like Germany and Switzerland, IBANs are commonly printed on bank cards and on bank statements. The IBAN is required for money transfers within Germany and in the SEPA area.
Unlike the IBAN, the BIC (aka SWIFT) identifies your bank rather than your individual account. BICs are either 8 or 11 characters long. These characters identify the bank, the country, and the location within that country. Your BIC should be in the same place as your IBAN: either on your bank card or on your bank statements.
In case you cannot find this information, we advise you to contact your bank directly.
